Financial Zen turns 8 years old today!
They say that every 7-8 years, we go through a major life change, evolving into a new identity and shedding our soul’s old skin.
And sure – while correlation is not causation – 8 years before starting Financial Zen, I started my financial planning practice at 31.
8 years before THAT I quit my high-paying investment banking job to DJ of all things.
And when I zoom out over the trajectory of my career, Financial Zen is all about one thing…. like literally that ONE THING.
Like Curly sticking up his index in City Slickers, I was always in search of my one thing.
I don’t think it was a conscious thought, as much as it was a feeling.
I refused to settle for just a job or a career or even success.
I needed MEANING. I needed to find my path.
And that search bounced me around from one Sunday-Blues-Inducing job to another TGIF gig until I landed here.
But I knew that even 1:1 financial planning wasn’t my endpoint.
It was just the vehicle I would use to make the impact I ultimately wanted to make.
What I really want is to maximize the greatest good for the greatest number. (I ❤️John Stuart Mill.)
If you’re going to effect that kind of change, it means building a machine to economize the scale.
And that’s been our journey over the last 8 years.
So it seems fitting that we’re on the precipice of having our first full-time financial planner start on May 13th.
She’s the opening move of the new chess game Financial Zen is embarking upon.
In another 8 years, we’ll turn Financial Zen into a household name, create a new standard, and democratize financial planning for the masses.
