You need to automate because there is no safety net

Louis entered the room to a barrage of “Congratulations!” and “I can’t believe it’s been 40 years!”

The fluorescent lights were giving the room a rainbow tint as they passed through the balloons scattered

across the ceiling.

Suzanne was starting to cut up the cake and passing it around to Louis’s coworkers.

After 40 years selling insurance, the time had come. Louis was officially retiring and heading off into the

sunset.

And thankfully for Louis, it was 1981 and he had no worries at all about retiring.

Between Social Security and his company’s pension, he’d have income for the rest of his life.

A few years after Louis retired, the newish 401(k) started to gain popularity.

And the course of history was changed forever

It would only be 10 short years before the burden of retirement was longer resting on your employer’s

shoulder.

From then on, it would be YOUR RESPONSBILITY to figure out how to save, invest and then generate

income in retirement…

…which is an incredible burden when you think about.

Our grandparents generation had it all done for them.

Their company would automatically throw money into the pension pot.

Then professional money managers would invest it for them and give them income after they retired.

I’m not here to argue whether the now ubiquitous 401k is a good thing or bad thing.

But whether you like it or not, it’s up to YOU to save, invest and then generate income.

And if you screw it up, there is no safety net.

So it’s incredibly important to have a working knowledge of how to invest.

And once you do, if you then automate your savings (like maxing out your 401k), you’ll have at least the

first two legs of the stool in place – saving and investing.

The only missing piece is how to generate income (which I already showed you in previous videos).

If your a Financial Zen Member, you know we’ve got you covered on all of this.

And if you’re not a Financial Zen Member, then our upcoming Investing Masterclass should help you

along your path.
