I love America, warts and all.
It’s the only country in the world founded on the idea of opportunity.
People from all over the world leave their homes and families to come here seeking a better life.
The only limit to our success is the work we’re willing to put in.
THAT is the blessing of America – limitless opportunity.
Just look at your paychecks over the last 10 years. I bet on an inflation-adjusted basis you’re making much more money today than you were then.
You’ve grown and acquired skill sets and put in the work. And now you’re paid for it.
But therein lies the curse.
We BELIEVE we’ll make more money tomorrow than we did today. After all, we have a career’s worth of proof to support that belief.
And that can get us into trouble.
By spending tomorrow’s money today.
By saving less than we know we should.
By telling ourselves when we’re making $X, THEN we’ll be all set.
We turn what COULD BE a feeling of gratitude for what we’ve achieved into a feeling of anxiety because we just don’t have quite enough.
The most financially successful people we work with focus on their “today money”, NOT their “tomorrow money”.
They sleep well at night knowing next year will be better, but even if it’s not, they won’t be wanting for anything.
I know when I feel out in front of my financial skis it’s always because I’m spending tomorrow’s money. And that’s when I reel it in and get back my peace of mind.
You can’t have a peak without a valley and you can’t have a blessing without a curse. But you can choose where to set up camp.
