If you don’t live in California, today’s the last day to file your 2022 taxes.
Just a few reminders:
- Today is the last day to make 2022 IRA contributions.
- You still have to pay your estimate even if you file for an extension.
- If you owe, consider increasing your withholding.
- If you get a refund, consider decreasing your withholding.
A few reminders for California residents:
- If you live in a FEMA-declared disaster area, you get an automatic extension until October 16 for both state and Federal.
- Don’t wait to complete your tax return though. You want to know if you’ll owe or get a refund.
- If you owe, then DON’T file until October and set aside what you owe in your high-yield savings or ideally Treasuries.
- If you owe, consider increasing your withholding.
- If you get a refund, consider decreasing your withholding.
- Your last day for IRA contributions is October 16.
TAX FUN FACTS: The average American spends 11 hours doing their own taxes each year. If you spent less time than that (regardless if you’re a tax whiz or hired a tax preparer) give yourself a high five.
