I’m not even kidding…
It’s none other than Martha freakin’ Stewart! *cue record screech*
Maybe it’s because I’m officially middle-aged, but people who don’t “act their age” give me goosebumps.
Whether it’s Warren Buffet still running Berkshire Hathaway at 92…
…or my grandmother running laps around the house with her walker at 96…
…or Martha Stewart gracing the SI Swimsuit cover at 81…
People like that are my heroes.
Martha’s CNBC interview on Wednesday was full of inspiration…
Her message is “successful living” NOT aging. “I don’t want to talk about aging at all.”
She rides horses. She hikes. She does Pilates.
She’s still creating and marketing new products, including her own wine and CBD edibles. (BTW she’s worth $400M, so it ain’t for the money!)
She’s built a TikTok following because people her age aren’t on TikTok.
She’s doing more at 81 than most of us are doing at 30.
And she said her secret is maintaining abundant quantities of energy, curiosity and optimism.
Those themes carry throughout every example of successful aging… err… successful LIVING I’ve seen.
Charlie Munger is notoriously curious and always learning.
Every single centenarian on that episode of 60 minutes stayed active – dancing, playing bridge, even dating.
And I don’t think we need an example for optimism. If you don’t expect tomorrow to be better than today, then why even bother?
I can’t say that’ll be on any magazine covers in 35 years, but one thing I know for sure is that in the words of Matthew McConaughey, I’ll be “L-I-V-I-N”
And I hope you’ll join me!
