I live in daily terror.
Every single email I get from our FZ members comes with a sprinkle of anxiety that THIS will be THAT email.
“Rick, it’s been real. Thanks for the help. We’re moving on.”
In 15 years, I’ve only received THAT email 3 times. (And TBH those 3 times came with a sprinkle of relief, not anxiety.)
But that crippling insecurity is part of my drive.
It’s why I’m in the office on Saturdays.
It’s why I’m constantly (sometimes head-spinningly) adding to our services.
It’s why I run so far past the finish line with every interaction.
So maybe “crippling insecurity” is the wrong word.
Maybe it’s more like “motivating paranoia.”
Whatever you call it, negative reinforcement is a strong driver.
Whether it’s my motivating paranoia…Michael Jordan playing with a chip on his shoulder… or Jocko Willink not wanting to let his SEAL Team down…
…fear of getting what you DON’T want is a powerful side of the success coin.
