“You Lost Me”

… I say “You lost me.”

It’s a subtle Jedi mind trick that puts the responsibility on the other person and relieves you subconsciously.

“I don’t understand” implies both explicitly and subconsciously that you couldn’t keep up / aren’t smart enough / are less than.

In a book I can’t track down, they did a study of superstar athletes – the Serena Williams, Tiger Woods, Michael Jordans of the world.

And what they found was that superstars take credit for the victory and displace blame for the losses.

Not externally at a press conference, but internally that’s how they framed the wins and losses.

If they lost, it was some outside force. Something out of their control.

If they win it’s because THEY won.

Not “I don’t understand”, but…

“You lost me.”
