Where were you August 25, 2008? 12 years ago today, I officially started my career as a financial planner. It’s a journey that would turn into my life’s work and today is my 12 year anniversary!

True Story
It was still dark out when I reported for work on my first day.
6:25am
Dolled up in my suit and tie and eager to start, I was greeted by my boss, coffee in hand.
He gives me a hearty welcome and then tells me that the firm’s next training program won’t start for another 2 weeks.
“And unfortunately, I’ll be gone for the next two weeks. So I want you to really dig into the Wall Street Journal every day while I’m gone. And when I get back we’ll start getting you up to speed.”
My job was literally to read the Wall Street Journal! #bestjobever!
Curious, I asked where he was headed for vacation.
Now imagine what a branch manager at a brokerage firm looks like and I bet you’re picturing John.
60ish white guy. Bald up top, with streaks of pure white hanging on for dear life to the sides.
He deflected my question which only made me more curious.
“So where you headed? What? Like a little family vaca to Hawaii?”
He looked back and responded sheepishly:
“Uhh, no. Actually I’m headed to Burning Man.”
#bestbossever!
I think I hid my shock pretty well, but I never asked him.
If my origin story was a Marvel movie, the opening scene definitely would have been that first morning.
Where were you 12 years ago?
Seriously think about that. When I was finding out how cool my boss was, what were you doing?
What was your job?
Now imagine doing that exact job 6 days a week, 70-80 hours a week for 12 years. After 45,000 hours, do think you’d be pretty freaking good at that job?
I bet you would!
And so am I!
If you have kids, you need to call me!
We’re the only game in town (or the country for that matter) for financial planning for young families. And I’ve been doing this and nothing but this for over 12 years.
We’ll get you dialed in in no time flat and make sure you don’t miss anything. Your family will be protected and you’ll be on track to hit your goals.
After 45,000 hours, I’m pretty great at zeroing in on anything you might be missing.
So schedule your Discovery Call and let’s make sure your family’s taken care of.
In reflection
All bravado aside, my anniversary always makes me very reflective.
I’m incredibly lucky to have found my calling at all, much less at 31 years old.
I love helping people.
Not a day goes by that I’m not grateful for the opportunity to help other and as Steve Jobs also said “make my little dent in the universe.”
….and scene.
