A mental hack to reduce overwhelm

Overwhelm only exists in the future.

The further into the future you look, the more oxygen you feed the overwhelm fire.

Of course you need to set goals and plan and prioritize. I’m not talking about that.

I’m talking about trying to mentally drink an entire quarter/month/week’s worth of work in a single gulp of thought.

You’ll just choke.

Instead, eat the elephant one bite at a time without thinking about how many bites it’s going to take.

Overwhelm hit me hard this week.

It wasn’t the work I was doing. It was the work I anticipated doing next week.

So I just changed my calendar to only show 4 days at a time instead of 7.

Hopefully cutting off 3 days of oxygen will starve the overwhelm fire.
