I’ll keep this short and sweet, so you receive the message.
You have to buy your I-Bonds by tomorrow (Friday, 10/28) to lock in the current 9.62% rate.
Even though the inflation kicker resets on 11/1, the Treasury Direct website (where you buy them) was updated recently with a warning to buy before 10/28.
Speaking from experience, it takes about 20 minutes.
[If you can’t find 20 minutes, I wouldn’t sweat it. I doubt the inflation kicker will be any lower for this reset.]
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT…
(I just can’t bring myself to use ICYMI.)
I-Bonds are 30 year US Government bonds that pay a base interest rate with an inflation “kicker”.
The kicker resets every 6 months on November 1 and April 1.
You lock in the annualized rate 6 months at a time.
You have to hold them for a year before you can redeem them.
Between Year 1 to Year 5, you’ll have to pay back 3 months of interest to redeem.
After Year 5, you can redeem them without any penalty.
You can buy $10,000 per year per person (including kids).
Your trust can also buy $10,000 worth.
