Happy Birthday to Us!

Happy Birthday to us! The Financial Zen Group turns 4 today! Our mission is to get financial planning into every home in America. I’m proud of how far we’ve come and freakin’ pumped about where we’re headed!

How far we’ve come

As any start-up knows, until you get consistent, positive customer feedback all your hard work is for nothing. Your plans, your ideas, your hunches don’t mean squat until you figure out what really matters to people.

But once you figure that out, you are making a dent in the universe. What you’ve built is positively impacting other’s lives.

(And when they start telling other people about this awesome thing they found, then you really know you’ve nailed it.)

We’re killing it

New Financial Zen members just graduating Bootcamp consistently tell me even if they had known everything they were supposed to do, it would have taken them 5 years to do it.

Legacy Financial Zen members who have been with us for years consistently tell me how much they love having someone to call at a moment’s notice who knows their situation inside and out. (And also having someone who will hold them accountable while watching their house.)

And most importantly (and telling) is our members love talking about us. We get a steady flow of referrals from current members every month.

So yeah, without a doubt, it’s been a successful 4 years. We are making our dent in the universe and improving lives.

Where we’re headed

But we’re not done! Oh no.

Our missions is to change the culture and get financial planning into every home in America.

Anyone who makes a decent living and has kids needs a financial planner. Full stop.

The reason that’s not a universally accepted idea is that until now, only rich people had access to financial planners. To work with an experienced financial planner, you needed to hand over $1M to make their 1% fee large enough to make it worth their while.

Most young families don’t have $1M yet, so most young families don’t have a financial planner.

But what if someone changed the game?

What if someone leveraged a ton of technology and built economies of scale by only working with young families?

And then what if they turned the traditional fee structure on its head, so you didn’t need to hand over $1M to work with them?

Well then you’d have The Financial Zen Group.

We are the only firm in the country that offers full-service, hands-on financial planning for young families for an affordable monthly subscription.

How the culture changes

It starts with a spark. Our current members love us and already talk about us to their friends. Some of those friends will join us. Then they tell their friends. And on. And on. And on. Spread the word further with a little marketing and…

…eventually, we hit a critical mass. Our industry peers take notice. Some of our peers join us. Others will copy us.

Once there are enough financial planners working with young families, it will no longer be a foreign concept. It will just be what you do.

You get pregnant. You buy a stroller. You hire a financial planner.

Join the mission

There’s a lot of work to be done, so please continue to help us spread the word. Forward this to your friends. Like our posts on social media. Follow us on LinkedIn.

We need your help to change the culture.

We’ve made a solid start the first 4 years, but even more fun than looking back is looking ahead. I can’t wait to see what the next 4 years hold.
