My Whoop! fitness tracker hasn’t left my wrist since late January. And over those ~3,000 hours, I’ve learned how to game the system.
On my way to bed, I’ll turn on the “Sleep” activity even if I’m technically still brushing my teeth.
I MIGHT turn on the strength trainer before my first working set.
If my heart rate is still in Zone 1, when I hop off the treadmill, I’ll keep the running activity turned on until it settles.
Now you may be saying, “But Rick, you’re only cheating yourself,” to which I’d say “Ehh.”
Working the system a little means you’re still engaged with the system. So engaged in fact that you’re willing to cut a few corners just to improve your data.
And while I’m not a fan of cutting corners, sometimes it’s okay.
The H1 Squeeze
For instance, it’s the last month of Q2, but more importantly, the last month of H1.
I already know our spending is stretched for the year. So for the next month, I’m gonna keep that in mind and push everything we can into July, so our H1 numbers look better.
I do that monthly, for that matter, too. If we’re pacing ahead of our average monthly spend, I’ll just eat what’s in the freezer for the last week of the month. No groceries. No dinners out.
The Danger of “Just Feasting”
Would it be better to pull back and even it out? Yes, that would definitely be better.
Feast or famine is usually not the healthiest option.
BUT the only thing worse than feast or famine is just feasting. That requires a total disengagement with the system, which is how we actually get into trouble.
The real danger isn’t caring so much, you do a little window dressing.
The real danger is not caring enough to even bother making it look good.
Know Your Numbers
But all that starts with just knowing your numbers.
So if you haven’t already, get into your FZ Portal and update your CashFLO numbers in your workbook.
If you’re ahead of schedule, great! Change nothing.
Or if you’re behind, then take a chill pill till the Fourth of July.
