One my best buddies texted me this week: “Dude! I’m coming up Friday night! Let’s grab some drinks and steak! I already made a rezzie for us at Alexanders!”
I replied, “Heck yeah! Let’s do it! But what about Harris’ instead?”
“Never been, but sounds great!” he responded.
Alexander’s is across town near the ballpark. At rush hour, it’s a minimum 30-minute commute.
Getting back home would be at least a 45-minute Uber.
Harris’, on the other hand, is 9 minutes from my office and then another 11 minutes home.
In total, going to Harris’ gives me 55 minutes of my life back.
My fully transparent social policy is: I will always suggest a location that’s most convenient for me. (And if I have to sweeten the deal by buying the drinks, then I 100% will.)
If they push back, I won’t INSIST, but my opening bid will always be the closest option.
Time is our second most valuable commodity and optimizing for time will always produce the greatest ROI.
