Up!
There ya go. Thanks for tuning in!
Seriously though, CNBC’s favorite programming at the beginning of every year is endless predictions from a bottomless assortment of “market experts.”
It’s been nonstop all day.
But here’s the only thing you really need to know.
The market is up 7out of every 10 years, so guess which side the smart money will always bet on?
Here’s some actual data points I put together.
I took the annual return of the S&P 500 since 1950 and assigned it a “1” if it was up and a “0” if it was down.
Then I took the rolling 10 year average. And guess what I got?
7.2
Meaning the average number of “up” years out of every 10 is 7.2 over the last 61 years.
So with only a 30% chance of being wrong, I’ll predict “Up!” every year of every decade.
