My $665,000 website

Our website cost me $665,000.

“How hard could WordPress be?” I thought.

Then I spent 2 hours every Saturday for 5+ years doing it myself.

Last year, I scrapped it all and hired a professional to do it for me.

If you multiply my “hourly rate” by the hours I wasted doing it myself, you get ~$665k.

The very expensive mistake I made was thinking KNOWLEDGE was all I needed.

After all, Google is like one gigantic instruction manual for WordPress, so what more could I need?

Now I understand.

Thanks to Google, knowledge is now free and abundant and therefore holds little value.

The value these days is in the IMPLEMENTATION of that knowledge.

Knowing how to use the knowledge – aka experience – is the important part. Street smarts, not book smarts.

I hope you can learn from my mistake.

What’s your $665,000 website?

Where are you mistaking knowledge for experience?
