3 years ago yesterday Kobe Bryant left us much too soon.
He may be gone, but his inspiration lives on.
This is my favorite Kobe story as told by fellow NBA player Jay Williams.
The Bulls were playing the Lakers at Staples Center.
Jay (playing for the Bulls) had an extreme work ethic, so he arrived at Staples at 3pm to warm up for a 7pm tip-off.
As he enters the gym, he sees that Kobe beat him there and has already been there long enough to be dripping in sweat.
So Jay practices for about 90 minutes, gets off the floor, and watches Kobe practice for another 30 minutes.
Later that night, Kobe dropped 40 points on the Bulls.
After the game, Jay went up to him and asked him, “Hey Kobe, why were you in the gym for so long before the game today?”
Kobe replied: “Cause I saw you come in. And I wanted you to know no matter how hard you work, I will always outwork you.”
Rest in peace, Kobe. Thanks for the inspo.
