“So we want to talk to you about your email on Wednesday,” my dad said. “What was the thing about
$5,000 an hour?”
“Well, Dad it’s a time management hack. If I view an hour of my time as being worth $5,000, then I’ll only
spend my time on $5,000/hour activities.”
“Oh, I see,” my mom replied. “But that wasn’t clear in your email on Wednesday. It sounded like you were
saying you make $5,000 an hour and I don’t think your clients would like to hear that.”
To which I replied “They should WANT me to make $5,000 an hour. Which attorney do you think is better?
The one that’s $50/hr or the one that’s $5,000/hr?”
“Well, that’s a good point,” she said.
I continued. “While I don’t make $5,000 an hour, that’s definitely a goal of mine. And the way I’ll achieve it
is by delivering so much value that people can’t wait to pay me $5,000 an hour because they know they’ll
get $50,000 of value in return.”
“So actually I hope more people misunderstood my email. Because if they think I cost that much and
they’re smart, they’ll also assume the value we deliver must be through the roof. Which it is by the way.”
“Makes sense, son. Kind of like the value we delivered in raising you.”
“Exactly!” ????
Enjoy fleet week everyone!
