“I finally figured it out!”
“Figured what out?” Nicole replied.
“Figured out why I’ve been so unconfident about my content recently.
It’s Social Media envy!
I’m watching all these influencers with 5-figure followings who get 200+ likes and 50+ comments within an hour of posting.
I’m lucky if I get 10 likes and 3 comments.
I finally understand what people mean when they talk about how bad social media makes them feel! It feels like everyone’s doing better than you!”
“Yup. That’s about right. But why are you so excited about it? I thought it made you feel bad.” she inquired.
“Because you can’t find a solution if you don’t know the problem!”
This light bulb went off last Saturday (before the fire).
The way to gain a following on SM is to attach yourself to people who already have the audience you’re trying to reach.
The experts tell you to follow 100 people and watch their feeds so you can comment first and have your name (and short description show on top.
Their people see you and some will start following you too.
I know all this. But do I do it? No!
So why would I feel bad about my little baby following?
This is a new application of a lesson I’ve learned a million times before.
Don’t we always want results without the work? And when the results don’t come, we envy other people’s success who DID put in the work.
So fine.
I guess I’ll stop staring at my treadmill hoping to lose weight and actually start running on it.
