The magic of knowing your spending

It’s your Saturday reminder Observe Your Money!

Log into your Financial Zen Portal (or whatever your account aggregator of choice is – Mint, YNAB, etc.) and look at your trailing 30 day spending.

You may think incorporating this practice into your weekly habits is only to help spenders from spending.

That’s definitely one side of the coin.

But the other side is keeping savers from saving.

Wait. What?

Follow me. Savers are cheap by nature. (Nothing wrong with that. I’m one of em!)

But like anything, you can take it too far.

Wearing tattered 15 year clothes, eating tuna from a can for every meal and never going on vacation isn’t much of a life.

There needs to be a balance.

Shining a light on a spender’s actual savings doesn’t make them more cheap. It actually loosens their grip.

They realize their actual spending isn’t as much what they were imagining.

So there’s something for everyone.

If you don’t believe me, then just try it out for a month. I’m willing to bet, no matter which way you lean, you’ll gain an entirely new perspective on your spending habits.
