Time is NOT your most valuable commodity

I have NO IDEA when I get a personal text.

I don’t receive a ding or a notification or even a little app bubble.

I check and reply to texts once every morning. That’s it.

When people text me they receive an automated reply, so they know my lack of response isn’t personal:

“I only check texts once a day. If it’s urgent, please call. If it’s Financial Zen related, please text my business line at (415) 792-0345. I check that throughout the day.”

My friends hate it and I receive a never-ending stream of grief over it.

But I couldn’t care less.

Not because I’m not a good friend, but because if I spent my day snapping to attention every time someone requested it, I would get absolutely nothing done.

If you use Slack, you’re nodding your head in agreement right now.

(Can I get an “Amen” on instant messaging being the most counterproductive invention of the digital age?)

Our most valuable commodity is NOT time OR money.

It’s our attention.

And I believe we should be very judicious on who, what, and when we spend it.
