Happy New Year

Every New Year’s Eve year after an amazing dinner and a couple glasses of wine, our friends go around the table and talk about 3 things:

  1. What was your biggest accomplishment this year?
  2. What’s the most important thing you learned this year?
  3. What’s your biggest goal for next year?

It’s a wonderful way to reflect on a year well-done and dream big for next year. Feel free to steal it. Okay. I’ll start…

  1. Our biggest accomplishment – Pivoting to work exclusively with young families. We’ve changed the game. The old “asset gathering” business model – “Give me your money, so I can charge you a fee” – is totally bogus. It leaves millions of young families flapping in the breeze. They need help, but can’t get it because they don’t have enough money to get the attention of traditional financial advisor. This year we have changed that paradigm. The Financial Zen Group is the future of financial planning.
  2. What I learned – 90% perfect is good enough. Perfection is the north star, but it is ultimately unattainable. So chasing perfection is a form of resistance/procrastination. Our service model is unlike anything else and adds tremendous value to our member’s lives, but it’s only 90% perfect. I spent too much time this year chasing that final 10%. I should have focused on spreading the word to help more people. Live and learn…
  3. Our biggest goal for 2020 – Distribute, distribute, distribute. We’ve changed the game. Our product is 90% perfect. We are improving lives one family at a time. Now it’s time to scale. Help more people. Hire more financial planners. The more we get the word out, the more good we can do. 2020 is the year we catch fire.

Happy New Year! Hope 2020 is full of important lessons, big dreams, and even bigger accomplishments!
